Accommodation in Frýdek-Místek

A unique Baroque roadside inn from 1702 in Frýdek-Místek, in operation for three hundred years!

Romantic accommodation in the loft of a family guest house, combined with modern comfort (WIFI, television with satellite, minibar,...).

Eleven air-conditioned, non-smoking rooms, with replica period furniture, to accommodate up to 25 persons.

The guest house is situated in the town quarter of Frýdek, by the public car park in front of the BILLA supermarket, and a 5 minute walk from the bus and train stations.

For romance and history lovers, we recommend the largest room, “The Marshalls’ room”, named after the Russian military leaders, A.V.Suvorova and M.I.Kutuzova, who stayed in the inn during the period of the Napoleonic wars.

You can also experience accommodation like the legendary personalities of the battle of Slavkov (Austerlitz 1805) that we know from Tolstoy’s tome “War and peace”.

And don’t forget to have your photograph taked next to the canon with the Russian soldier, as a memento of your stay.

From history

The U Křivého psa guest house has been making its guest’s lives more pleasant for three hundred years. It can be found on the old trade route, known as the amber, salt, or copper road, joining the south of Europe, from the Adriatic sea to the Baltic. The Baroque building has been known as a roadside inn with many names, including U mýta, U černého orla, and Na Veselé.

In 1748, the Russian army marched through Frýdek–Místek with a force of approximately forty thousand men, to help the Emperor.

Thirty-one years later, in 1779, Emperor Josef II returned through here from Fryštát after the “Těšín peace”.

The inn gained value in 1788, when the main postal and trade route from Frýdek to Těšín was completed.

In the past, however, there wasn’t always such a spirit of ease like there is today. As a memorial to those days, there is a marble plaque in the entrance hall of the restaurant, with the portraits of the legendary Russian military leaders, Suvorov and Kutuzov.

On 8.2.1800, the inn accommodated the seriously injured military leader, A.V.Suvorov, during the period of the Napoleonic wars, who was returning home from the Italian-Swiss offensive. Suvorov taught his officers and generals: “Take care of your health! Clear your stomach when it is contaminated. Hunger is the best medicine”. To this day, Suvorov’s legendary quote: “Tough on the training ground, easy in battle” still holds true.

On 27th September 1805, the Russian military leader M.I.Kutuzov stayed here with his entire camp. Their destination was Slavkov (Austerlitz), the battlefield of the battle of three emperors, where he commanded an army of seventy thousand Russian and Austrian soldiers. Kutuzov and the period of the Napoleonic wars is encaptured in theworld famous tome by Tolstoy, War and peace, which was the basis for many famous war films.

Even Russian Czar Alexander I rode past the inn on 24th September 1814, on his way to a congress in Vienna. On his return to Russia on 24th December of the same year, he was welcomed by a massive crowd at this place.
